Beerhouses, the five-strong pub chain in Yorkshire and Cheshire, has purchased the Symposium pub in Idle, Bradford, from Market Town Taverns (MTT).

The company has revealed that it will rebrand this sixth venue under the Beerhouses brand and it “will hopefully be the first of many.”

Beerhouses pubs offer real ale, food and music and pride themselves on serving the best local craft ales together with specialities from around the world.

Symposium is housed in a Victorian building that was formerly a general grocer and wine merchant. It opened in early 2001 and was subsequently refurbished by owners MTT.

Managing director of MTT Louise Middlemass said: “Symposium has been a valued part of the MTT family, so we have taken our time to ensure this much-loved bar is going to an operator which is credible, will invest in the business and enhance the offer to local customers. In Beerhouses, we think we have found the perfect new owner."

Sarah Barnes, director of Beerhouses, added: “We are looking forward to taking on this exciting new venture and are delighted to add Symposium into our Beerhouses family. We look forward to welcoming customers old and new once we reopen."

Fleurets handled the sale.

Beerhouses' other sites include the Stalybridge Buffet Bar in Stalybridge; The Cricketers Arms in Wakefield; The Old Turk in Dewsbury; The Sportsman in Huddersfield and the West Riding Refreshment Rooms in Dewsbury.

Its West Riding Refreshment Rooms has been awarded Heavy Woollen Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Pub of the Year 2017, while The Cricketers was awarded Wakefield CAMRA Pub of the Season for spring 2017.
