By Matt Eley Matt , 11-May-2010

A course designed to help licensees make the most of the World Cup has proved popular with a record number signing up.

Pubco giant Punch Taverns said that 1,200 people booked to take part - a record for the company - in its Profit Through Sport initiative.

Punch Partnerships' beer and cider category manager, Stephen Martin, said: "The World Cup presents a massive opportunity for our partner's to drive trade and we're thrilled with the level of interest in Profit Through Sport.

"It's designed to provide practical advice and techniques on managing successful promotions, merchandising, staff training through to putting on the right drinks and food and creating the perfect atmosphere.

"Partners will be able to apply the principles to any major sporting event they run."
