The licensee of an Oxfordshire pub has told of the “enormous sense of pride” he and his staff felt after a recent visit by Prime Minister David Cameron and French president Francois Hollande.

Archie Orr-Ewing who has run the Swan Inn in Swinbrook with wife Nicola for the past eight years, was given two weeks’ notice to prepare for the visit, which saw the two heads of state enjoy a working lunch.

“We wanted to give the French president food from the area,” he told the PMA. “We served smoked potted shrimps from the smokery next door, rainbow trout from the local farm, and apple crumble.

"Afterwards, the president shook everyone’s hands. He was very friendly.”

Orr-Ewing, who also runs the King’s Head Inn at Bledington, Oxfordshire, revealed the PM had visited the pub before in a casual capacity but this was the first “formal” event.

He added: “I enjoyed it once it was over. There was a lot of excitement.”
