Doom Bar, the flagship beer of Sharp's Brewery in Cornwall, has become the best selling cask conditioned beer at Punch Taverns. The beer managed to grow sales by 89.5% more than the average of all other cask ales sold by Punch. The overall cask performance at Punch is down 0.1% for the year since May 2010.

James Nicholls, business development and marketing manager at Sharp's Brewery, said: "Becoming the number one cask conditioned beer for the UK's largest pub chain is a huge accolade for Doom Bar. It is proof of its increasing popularity among beer drinkers in pubs across the country."

Steve Martin, drinks category manager at Punch Taverns, added: "Doom Bar has proved a popular choice for our pubs and their customers, and the sales figures over the last year prove this. We look forward to continuing this successful partnership between Punch and Sharp's."

According to CGA Data Monitor Doom Bar is the No 1 selling cask brand in the South West and Wales and the fastest growing cask brand in Greater London.

Punch Taverns includes both the managed and tenanted estates of the company, which is set to demerge on 1 August into Punch and Spirit Pub Company.
