A soon-to-open London pub is to debut chicken wings cured in Red Stripe lager as one of the choices on its Caribbean-themed menu.

The Prince of Peckham on Clayton Road, will offer the dish alongside other tropical options including saltfish fritters, jerk chicken and mini patties when it officially opens on Thursday (18 May) replacing the former Clayton Arms.

Owner Clement Ogbonnaya, a local resident and former Columbo group events employee, has appointed Caribbean street food specialists White Men Can’t Jerk to run the kitchen of the 300-capacity pub.

Bottomless brunches

The chefs plan to host bottomless brunches on Saturdays, jerk-inspired roasts on Sundays and bottomless wings – ‘designed to cure any early week blues’ – on Mondays.

A number of vegetarian dishes will also be sold, including a jerk halloumi meal with roasted peppers, rice and peas, coleslaw, pineapple and Scotch bonnet jam and jerk sauce for £10.

Meat-based buns and fries start from £11, while the jerk chicken meal costs £12.

The Prince of Peckham is the first venture from The Arbuthnot Group, a hospitality business launched by Ogbonnaya that is committed to delivering great value food and drink.

“I used to go to school just down the road from the Prince of Peckham and have been here ever since,” Ogbonnaya said.

'The place I grew up'

“To be able to do what I love in the place that I grew up makes this all the more special.

"The Prince of Peckham will be a place where everyone can feel at home but, first and foremost, it will be a proper pub for south London, by south London.”

The pub will also provide a space for local artists to showcase their work and hold free community-based events upstairs.
