Drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark has expanded its Boutique Beers and premium Cider House ranges in a bid to tap into consumer demand for new and different styles.

The renamed Cider House Collection now includes 30 new ciders, which reflect emerging trends such as a St Louis Dry Hopped and Zeffer ‘hopped’ variants to bridge the gap between craft beer and cider.

There are also new flavoured variants that include Waddlegoose Three Berry and Maeloc Strawberry and Blackberry.

New beer additions

The wholesaler’s Boutique Beers range has also expanded and features 102 new additions including eight products from Welsh brewers Tiny Rebel.

Beer, cider and soft drinks category manager Justin Wylde outlined how promiscuous consumers were the driving force behind the expansion.

He said: “As the beer and cider category continues to go from strength to strength, consumers are increasingly expecting a wide range of different beers and cider styles, and interest in discovering new styles is on the rise.

“Responding to the change in consumer drinking habits, we’ve diversified our portfolio to help customers take advantage of this trend.”

Previous history

Meanwhile, this wasn’t the first time this year that the Conviviality PLC-owned distributor has expanded its portfolio as in April, it unveiled a new range of premium beers for its on-trade customers.

It upped its premium offering by 100 listings, bringing the total number of beers in its Boutique range to 270.

This came as Matthew Clark reported a 107% rise in total lager sales, with speciality draught lager sakes up 60.3%, global draught lager up 24% and global packaged lager up 14.9%.
