German brewer Veltins has revealed plans to invest more than £7m in the modernisation of its logistics facilities.

As part of its 10-year improvement plan, Veltins wants to improve its efficiency and processes, including the adaptation and flexibility of brewery production.

Veltins has already commissioned and installed a new barrel-filling plant in 2016, which has about 20% more capacity than its predecessor.

As part of the brewery’s new technology introductions last year, two robots were installed to fill barrels.

More than £7.5m will be invested over the next few years as part of the modernisation of the logistics facilities, including the construction of a new office building and replacing the power supply transmission station.

Good, crisp pilsner

This year’s Publican Awards Best Brewing Pub Company award winner North Brewing Co recently agreed a deal to have Veltins fridges installed in its bars at its North Bar sites.

North Brewing Co director Christian Townsley said: “We have been selling Veltins’ pilsner for about two years now.

“The company has very kindly given us fridges so we can have a takeaway bottle shop at all of our venues and, because it is in collaboration with Veltins, we can offer their beer and some of our own as a bottle shop offer.”

Townsley outlined the reasons why North Brewing Co wanted to have the pilsner at its sites.

He said: “It’s a really good, crisp pilsner and is made according to Reinheitsgebot, the German beer purity law of 1516.

“We wouldn’t have it in our fridges or in our bars if we didn’t really believe in the product as we are quite pedantic about that.

“We have a really good relationship with Veltins’ importer, Vertical Drinks and it was a good opportunity for us.”

Vertical Drinks sales manager Tyler Kiley said: “We wanted to partner with a group of bars to showcase the wonderful product that is Veltins.

“North Bars' track record of being pioneers is second to none, they were one of the first bars to go away from some of the mass-produced lagers of yesteryear.

“Choosing to stock Veltins was an easy choice for North Bar as its pure drinkability sells itself also it’s also competitively priced.

“It’s no surprise to us that they were named ‘Best Brewing Pub Company’ at the recent industry awards.”
