The Best Brewing Pub Company winner at this year's Publican Awards – North Brewing Co – has revealed a new sour beer, among a flurry of other launches.

Volta is 4.1% ABV and made with locally sourced Yorkshire rhubarb and blood orange, combining sweetness and tartness together.

North Brewing Co director Christian Townsley outlined how sales have been since it was released to customers this week (Monday 27 March).

He said: “It has flown out and we sold half the stock in the first day of selling it so I think we will be brewing it again at some point in the not-too-distant future."

Townsley also revealed the brewer and pub company is launching a canned mango and guava pale ale called Piñata today (Friday 31 March).

He added: “We have already brewed it a few times and it has been really popular so we decided to can it.

“This is our first foray into fully printed cans so up until now, our cans have had labels but these will be fully printed cans.

“We are launching it with a piñata party at the brewery tap tonight.”

Another ale in pipeline?

Townsley had previously said he was sad to see the paper labels on the brewery’s cans go but was happy with the new designs.

He added: “We are excited to move forward with a number of new distribution channels for the cans including a national listing with Matthew Clark, potential partnerships with several national supermarkets and further export opportunities in Sweden, Ireland and Holland.”

The co-founder also alluded to plans for another pale ale and said the name hadn't been confirmed yet but did describe it as "small and beautiful".
