Founded with Alexander Langlands-Pearse, the firm already owns five sites including the Admiral Codrington in Chelsea, west London. The main focus of the company is on country inns in the Home Counties with six to eight bedrooms.

With his fine-dining background, operations director Askew will be involved with the menus, which will be full of traditional, British pub food using quality local produce.

Apart from the Chelsea site, the other sites, which are all freeholds, need a variety of work before officially launching.

“It is a very exciting project,” said Askew. “We want 40 to 50 sites and they will all be individual. They will be traditional, local country pubs in the heart of communities.

“They are all at different stages — some are waiting for planning permission, some for the right people. It is harder to find the right people than the right sites.”
