Gunard's Head: receiving awards

A Cornish chef has won a gold Cornwall Healthier Eating and Food Saftey award in recognition of his commitment to healthy menu options.

Bruce Rennie, head chef of Eatdrinksleep site the Gunard's Head near Zennor, is devoted to local sourcing for healthy dishes and has encouraged his team to be the same.

The pub is displaying the logo to let customers know about the accolade, which shouts about its high food safety standards, local foods and healthier cooking methods.

"This is the most prestigious award we give and reflects extremely high standards in food safety and hygiene, combined with offering a wide range of healthier food choices, incorporating local produce, to the customer," said Cornwall council commercial food and safety officer Martin Holland.

Gurnard Head co-owner Charles Inkin said: "The balance and variety of ingredients on the plate is something that Bruce and his team spend a lot of time thinking about, shown best by the way nearly half of our menu is suitable for non-fish and meat eaters."
