Beer is going on the menu at Michel Roux's two Michelin-starred restaurant Le Gavroche for the first time in its 39-year history.

Roux will introduce a beer list after agreeing to a beer versus wine food combination tasting challenge with Coors Brewers Beer Naturally.

The chef is now serving Liefmans Kriek, the 6% abv Belgium cherry beer, with rare peppered tuna, spicy ginger and sesame dressing as part of Le Gavroche's Menu Exceptionel, and will introduce the full beer list next month.

Meanwhile, 130-year-old Southwold-based brewer, Adnams, has revealed a sales increase of 292% for its bottled speciality beers over the past five years. It attributes part of the success to the increasing number of gourmet drinkers ordering beer with food instead of wine. Adnams is launching its first blonde beer, Adnams Explorer, this month.
