The Royal Oak at Paley Street, Berkshire — the Fuller’s pub owned by the veteran chat-show host Michael Parkinson and his son, Nick, is adding eight bedrooms at the side of the pub on land that is currently a car park.

The kitchen was extended last year and extra equipment added in order to cope with the extra covers that the restaurant extension will bring.
Work on the restaurant will begin in March and the bedrooms are due to be completed by August. Owner Fuller’s is funding the work.

“We have been working towards this for a long time and now we feel that our reputation and consistency is at a point that we can do it,” explained marketing and PR manager Roz Parkinson.

“We want the rooms to appeal to executives as well as people going away for weekends, as we are right in the commuter belt and close to Heathrow.”

The pub retained its Michelin star in October last year.
