Pub chef up for Young National Chef of the Year

An Essex pub is among the final eight battling it out for the title of Young National Chef of the Year 2011.

 

Garret Keown of the Bell Inn, Horndon-on-the-Hill, impress Craft Guild of Chefs judges along with seven other finalists including a Channel Islands hotel to a House of Commons chef.

 

The winner will be presented with the accolade at the Restaurant Show 2011 on Tuesday 11 October at Earls Court 2. It is organised by the Publican's Morning Advertiser's sister title Restaurant magazine.

 

Courtesy of Churchill the winner will receive a five-day all expenses paid trip to Dubai.

 

They will also win a "chef skills advanced weekend" that includes cooking for fine dining, accommodation and an evening meal and a £1,000 place on a Leadership In The Kitchen training course at the prestigious Ashburton Chefs Academy in Devon, courtesy of Robert Welch and Ashburton Cookery School.
