The time is right to promote NFL nights, and pubs can be guided by Man v Food star Adam Richman’s new cook book Touchdown Tasty.

The 16-page free guide gives pubs ideas for match day meals to take advantage of a sport ideal for boosting trade, and has been distributed with today's PMA.

Richman it aims to “bring out the inner student in all of us”.

“It’s all about huge flavours - scooping something up with a chip, popping it in our mouth and it being delicious. Fun flavours that we wish we could combine, not just pie and chips.”

The book includes recipes for a barbecue beef sandwich, beef on weck sandwich, Italian beef sandwich, banh mi burger, mochiko Japenese, Hawaiian-style wings and veggie chilli.

“It’s got to be hand held, so you can have your arm around your girl or your buddy’s shoulder,” he said.

“American sports bars are known for cool, fun, flavor-packed dishes that are easy to share, fun to eat and I want to bring those delicious bites to the UK.”

Sky Sports has secured a deal to air more than 100 live matches a season as the popularity of NFL grows in the UK.

“NFL has a broad appeal - it’s a viewing experience. You’re not just swilling beer and watching ball. There are stoppages, extra time, a lot of gaps to go to the bar,” Richman said.

“Back in the day we viewed soccer with distain, but right now there’s mutual admiration and respect. This is the right time. We can bridge the gap.”

He champions dishes such as bratwurst cut into nachos and anything that’s spicy or involves avocado.

“When it comes to the real NFL fan experience, if you’re going to do it, you’d better do it right, and that means the food and drink has to be top notch. In my experience English pubs can have great food, but some pubs are often serving up the same dishes,” Richman added.

David Rey, managing director of Sky Business, added: “NFL has never been so popular in the UK as it is now – we’ve just had another three regular season games at Wembley and the sport continues to boom this side of the Atlantic.

“The rapidly growing support for the game presents a huge opportunity for pubs and bars to identify themselves as a place where fans can go on a Sunday and watch the live action.

“We’re delighted to have had Adam’s knowledge and experience to hand when putting the cookbook together – his enthusiasm for bringing these dishes to pubs in the UK has been infectious!”
