A London alehouse has debuted what it claims is the UK’s first ‘crackling menu’ aimed at complementing the venue’s craft-ale offering.

The George pub, which is situated within the luxury Andaz London Liverpool Street luxury hotel, is selling the popular British snack in four flavours priced £6.

Paired with craft ale

Each dish has been paired with a local craft ale: pork crackling with Lemongrass Saison, chicken crackling with Shoreditch Blonde, Parmesan and polenta crackling with Hopspur and Parma ham crackling with Pale Ale.

The idea was developed by head chef Keith Nicholas, who said the menu ‘paid homage’ to the East London breweries which supply the pub’s craft ales.

“We wanted to showcase this and provide support to our local suppliers, leading us to create the UK’s first craft and crackling menu,” he told The Morning Advertiser.

'Taste of craft beer'

”Each crackling dish has been perfectly paired to complement the flavour profiles and taste of our craft beers, which, so far has been well received by our customers.”

The Victorian pub has also introduced fish and chips with a choice of either a craft beer or stout batter and launched a spring menu comprising options including steamed Shetland Isle mussels, spring lamb rump with fondant potatoes spring greens and a lamb jus, as well as soft goats' cheese and beetroot Tatin served with a red onion marmalade, baby rocket and roasted pine nuts.
