The new menu at Alan Yau’s hotly anticipated new Chinese gastropub has been announced.

Duck & Rice in London’s Soho is due to open on April 13.

Yau, the founder of Wagamama and Hakkasan, is opening Duck & Rice on the site of the former Endurance pub in Berwick Street.

The new site’s website reads: “……Yau hopes to deliver a worthy sanctuary for the thirsty, the refuge seeker, the escapee, the pub goer and the hungry – with all the humour, warmth and irony that embody the character of the British pub.”

It will be open from lunch through to dinner weekdays, with an extended dim sum brunch service on weekends.

Menu focus

The first floor will offer a casual dining room with 70-covers offering re-interpreted classics from the Hong Kong Garden Chop Suey House, including dishes such as Kung Po chicken, crispy shredded beef and sweet and sour pork.

Dishes such as five spice crispy chicken and roasted Cantonese ‘house duck’ are billed as adding “ceremony” to the menu. Also on offer is a ‘Ten Heavenly Kings of Dim Sum’ which is also part of a weekend brunch menu.

Food on the dining room menu also include beer snacks of prawn crackers, boiled salted peanuts and grilled Iberico Jamon, Jabugo. Soups offer crabmeat & sweetcorn and spicy kimchee and tofu.

Salads feature Bang bang chicken and crispy duck salad. A ‘Small Chow’ section includes salt & pepper squid; sesame prawn toast; pork ribs & bitter melon in black bean and salmon & black bean and preserved mustard.

A ‘Heroes’ section offers Jasmine tea smoked baby back pork ribs and braised beef short ribs with chestnut and the ‘Chine Grill’ rump steak with fried rice & pak choi.

Bar offer

A downstairs bar will serve a range of bar snacks including salt & pepper broad beans and fried scampi with chilli wasabi mayo.

It also features four copper tanks of unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell beer which will be delivered weekly to the site. Other beers on offer will include Scottish Schiehallion from Harviestoun; Bath Ales’ Gem and St Austell’s Tribute.

The site’s interior draws on both Asian and British influences.
