American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is a big fan and connoisseur of classic British pub grub, recent reports have claimed.

Chicken pot pie, according to the New York Post at the weekend (30 January), is a favourite of London-born Wintour's, who is reportedly known to cook and serve her own to guests at home.

When eating chicken pot pie out, Wintour is apparently known to frequent the Lion on 62 West 9th Street.

The pie, according to chef-owner of the Lion, John DeLucie, is made with a "tonne of flour and butter".

'Not for a calorie-counter'

On the pie's popularity with the likes of Wintour, he said: "I was surprised as anyone that it’s done so well with my fashion guests. It's not really for a calorie-counter or carb-avoider. We don't try to make it light, just really good."

If Wintour ever found herself in the UK craving pie, then here are three gastropubs from the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs 2016 list the editor-in-chief should add to her hit list for top pies.

Chef-owner Jesse Dunford Wood has a background in fine-dining restaurants, but the cow pie at his gastropub in north-west London is already famous in the area.

Steven Smith's wild game pie in Brioche, roasted foie gras and English truffle sauce is an upmarket pie, but one Wintour is likely to enjoy.

Michelin-starred the Butchers Arms serves a roasted loin of fallow deer with game pie, celeriac purée and game chips.
