Marston's pub the Ffynnon Wen in Thornhill, Cardiff has been closed following a food poisoning outbreak which has left 90 people ill.

Cardiff Council's Public Protection Division is currently investigating the outbreak of the food-borne illness, where people suffered symptoms including diarrhoea and/or vomiting. Laboratory analysis of faecal specimens has confirmed the presence of norovirus, a common cause of gastroenteritis.

The premises are currently closed whilst control measures are implemented and other refurbishment works are carried out.

A council spokesperson said "No new cases have arisen since the implementation of control measures on Tuesday April 17 and the Outbreak Control Team are satisfied that there is no ongoing risk to public health."

Marston's Inns and Taverns operations director Pete Dalzell said: "As soon as we identified that there was an issue affecting both customers and staff, we took immediate voluntary action and closed the pub for a thorough investigation. Working with the EHO, we are carrying out all recommended actions to ensure that the pub can reopen safely, with confidence, on Thursday evening."
