London-based group Redcomb Pubs has unveiled its new casual-dining concept, Lock House.

The group, which owns seven pubs across London and the south, will open Lock House on a 3,700sq ft site situated on the ground floor of 3 Merchants Square, a waterside development in Paddington Basin, west London.

Dan Shotton, managing director of Redcomb Pubs, said: "Lock House will provide an all-day bar and restaurant offering, focusing on healthy breakfasts, speciality coffees, artisan breads and pastries along with a fast, casual day and evening menu."

The site will feature a 180-cover bar, restaurant and mezzanine area as well as an extended 70-cover dining space.

Quality over quantity

"The menu will be small but perfectly formed – definitely offering quality over quantity – with an affordable price point, featuring simple, home-made burgers using prime cuts of meat and a range of seasonal and on-trend toppings,” said Shotton.

Lock House's menu, designed by group executive chef Chris Spencer, would also feature slow-cooked rotisserie chickens and superfood 'jam jar' salads for more health-conscious diners, he added.

"The wine menu won't be exhaustive, but will feature a specially selected range of hand-picked, premium wines. Our beers will reflect a more worldly offering, with a range of international and award-winning craft ales and lagers."

High-profile metropolitan

The company plans to invest more than £1.3m into the development of the concept and is exploring the possibility of rolling it out to similar 'high-profile metropolitan' areas.

Shotton added: "These are exciting times for Redcomb as we scale up our programme of accelerated expansion and capitalise on new growth areas within Britain's burgeoning casual-dining sector.

"Our expansion into central London adds to our already-strong portfolio of hospitality businesses operating within the suburbs and home counties, and we continue to explore new areas of growth to further develop our business."

Fellow London operator Young's, winner of Best Food Offer (51+ sites) at the 25th Anniversary Publican Awards, made its first bricks and mortar foray into casual dining this month with the launch of its first stand-alone Burger Shack.
