Food at this 19th-century former alehouse is an unexpected delight.

The Bunch of Grapes combines a popular community local offering a great craft beer range with a fine-dining restaurant serving modern British cuisine.

Owner and chef Nick Otley offers inventive seasonal dishes featuring local produce; meat from farms within a 30-mile radius; veg grown nearby and in the pub’s own kitchen garden; and fish from sustainable sources on the Welsh and Cornish coasts. Bread is baked fresh for the restaurant and the in-house deli, which also stocks a selection of Welsh cheeses, artisan chocolate and other essentials.

Menus

Chefs are keen to flex their minds when it comes to creating dishes, but menus also feature reasonably priced pub staples, a great selection of steaks plus a well-priced set Sunday lunch menu.

Regular dining events keep customers interested and attract a healthy mix of regulars and those willing to travel from nearby Cardiff and beyond. The bright and unpretentious restaurant area features large blackboard menus and simple furniture and complements the relaxed feel of the place.

The emphasis is on staff development and freedom for chefs. Exciting plans for the future include a major refurbishment that will lead to the building of a new open-plan kitchen, private dining rooms and a new cookery school. This is certainly not a business resting on its laurels, rather one that continues to drive forward.
