RSPCA rescues chip-stealing parrot from pub garden

The parrot, an African grey, was spotted in the garden of the White Horse, Richmond, south-west London, last Tuesday (28 July).

RSPCA officer Tom Goldsmith told local paper Get Surrey​: “Apparently people in the pub at first assumed the parrot lived there when he flew in and started sitting on their shoulders.”

Complained​

“They were less happy, though, when he started to pinch some of their chips, so went in and complained to the barman.

“He spotted straight away that this was an escaped pet and confined the bird until I arrived.”

‘Mr Chips’​

The most likely scenario was that the bird, now nicknamed ‘Mr Chips’, had escaped after its cage door was left open, he said, adding that African greys were prized birds and it was unlikely Mr Chips had been abandoned.

Goldsmith told the local paper: “Apparently he is prone to some appreciative wolf whistles when members of staff walk past which is always nice for the ego.”
