We spoke with the winners of last year’s awards to find out how they positioned their award in the pub following their success.

Best Community Pub winners, Chaplins and the Cellar Bar from Bournemouth put their award outside and owner, Harry Chaplin said: “Our award is above the front door so it can be seen by people walking past and you can’t miss it.”

Birmingham pub the Lord Clifden took home the award for Best Entertainment Pun and general manager Liam Duncombe, said: “We have got a little shrine on the wall, up on a protruding beam where it is pride of place.”

Pride of place

Back down south, London’s the Wheatsheaf won Best Managed Pub so general manager Tom Bowen decided to put the award somewhere it could be seen and had the same idea as the Lord Clifden: “It has got pride of place, right above the fireplace.”

The Old Mill in Coventry have followed suit by placing their award for Best Bar Team near their bar as general manager, Linda Johnson explained: “Our award is up by the bar so people can read the plaque when they come in.”

Best Newcomer winner, the Old Volunteer in Nottingham also wanted everyone to see their award as operations manager Maggie Dunkin said: “Everywhere you go in the pub, you see that plaque which is on a pillar in a prominent place.”

Display

General manager of Norfolk’s the Jolly Sailors who won Best Family Pub, Heather Tidd revealed they also got their award put on paper: “We have got it printed on our menus and have got the award up behind the bar with the certificate.”

The Study Room in Lancaster found a special place to put up their award for Best Turnaround Pub, general manager David Burgess said: “We displayed the award in our display cabinet and put up posters to let our customers know about the win.”
