GBPA winners reveal benefits of their success

Here they are talking about how the award impacted their business:

In the resort town of Salcombe, sits the Victoria Inn run by licensees Tim and Liz Hore.

Winners of the Best Partnership pub, the husband and wife team have been in the trade for the past 25 years, and at the Victoria for the last seven and a half.

Regional winners

Tim explained that the pub had previously been in the regional heats, and described winning the finalist award as good for the whole pub team and the brewery. “We were regional winners before so it was really nice to win this time.

“We entered because we had a good relationship with the brewery (St Austell) and had just had a refurb, so thought we would try to get recognition."

The licensees weren't the only ones from the pub to be excited about the win.

Drinks all round 

“The staff knew straight away and it was drinks all round for them as we need them to operate, so it was good and they were buzzing because of it.

“You have to look after your staff and it really was a feather in their caps.”

He explained one of the best things about winning: “It makes you think about your pub from a different angle and highlights anything which is not right, which you can then fix.”

The marketing of the Victoria Inn's success was mentioned throughout the pub's social media sites.

Tim said: “It goes on all of our emails and advertising and is on Twitter and Facebook so when we won, it was plastered all over that.”

He added: “It is recognition from the trade and recognition of the hard work that the pub and the pub team have put into it to make it into a success.”

This year's GBPA finalists have been revealed​ and the next stage of judging is under way.
