New World Trading Company bar chain The Botanist entered the record books last week for the world’s biggest gin tasting across multiple venues.

A total of 796 drinkers at nine venues helped the Manchester-based chain set the official Guinness World Record - beating the previous record by more than 300 people.

The event was staged to celebrate the introduction of a new gin list across the brand’s estate with each lucky participant winning a competition to attend.

Ginthusiasts were treated to a flight of three gins before celebrating the successful record attempt with free drinks and live music.

Managing director of New World Trading Company, Chris Hill, said: “We’ve already broken Guinness World Records title for ale tastings and for the largest collection of rums commercially available, so with the recent addition of our ‘perfect serve’ gins to our menus we only felt it right to follow this up with a gin-themed world record attempt.

“We’re very proud of our extensive gin offering and it was great to have gin experts in each venue to give our guests more insight into the botanicals which make Tanqueray 10, Whitley Neill and Caorunn Gin so special.”
