PICTURES: Pub devastated by Boxing Day floods makes miraculous recovery

Licensees Paul and Pamela Rowlinson have reopened The Crown Inn, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, as the village makes an im-
pressive recovery.

Shocking pictures show the extent of the floods on the pub's street.

Admiral Taverns said the timely reopening is due to the “unwavering hard work and dedication” of the licensees, staff and community.

Steve Mckechnie, business development manager at Admiral Taverns, said: “The quick thinking, can-do
attitude and sheer determination of the Rowlinsons in the face of flooding that jeopardised their business and livelihood has been quite remarkable.
“Supported by the fantastic community of Hebden Bridge, the speed at which they have fully repaired and restored the pub is truly impressive.”

Recognising the risk to the site, Admiral Taverns in-vested in flood defences to help minimise damage.
But the nearby river Calder burst its banks on Boxing Day, leaving the entire street with up to 10 feet of water.
The scale of the flooding was disastrous for the pub. But the defences combined with the quick reaction from the Rowlinsons and the local community were vital, according to the pubco.

Despite the quick recovery, the pubco said that the floods have ‘devastated’ trade at the venue.
