Been through hell: Hospitality operators urged to visit Borough Market this Friday (9 June)

Hospitality operators have been urged to gather at Borough Market as soon as it re-opens to show solidarity with businesses caught up in the terror attack at the weekend.

Inception Group co-founders Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling, who are leading the campaign, had hoped to lead as many of their staff as possible to the market tomorrow evening. However, the market has now confirmed that it will not re-open in time.

Gilkes said the plan was to reconvene as soon as the market is functioning again.

He said: “The bars, restaurants and pubs of Borough Market have been through hell. The last thing we want is for them to suffer further from a lack of trade. Therefore as a fellow hospitality operator, we are trying to gather as many people to come and eat and drink as it re-opens.”

Meanwhile, the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) has launched a crowdfunding page to raise £2,000 to buy a round of drinks for the first responders in the London attack.
