Prominent boxing promoter and reality TV star Kellie Maloney is set to open a Kent pub after completing a £250,000 renovation of the site.

Maloney will open the Unicorn in Marden, Kent, this Saturday (6 May) as the landlady.

Maloney, who is famous for guiding Lennox Lewis to undisputed heavyweight champion of the world status, also operated five pubs between 1978 and 1992, including London pubs the Crayford Arms and the Castle in Aldgate. More than 200 guests are expected at Saturday’s launch party, which represents her first foray into pubs for 25 years.

The former Celebrity Big Brother contestant said the pub “grabbed” her when she visited as a customer in 2015 and that she “had an instinct to take it on right there and then”.

“I think pubs are the centre of many villages and towns and there are far too many closing down. Not only is this ripping the heart out of communities but many local people are losing their jobs,” she added.
