Beds and Bars has teamed up with the BII to take 20 people off the dole, train them and place them in pub jobs.

Beds and Bars managing director Keith Knowles is to set up residential courses in four of its sites — Newquay, London, Edinburgh and Paris — where the job seekers will take a four-day course to demonstrate the career opportunities in the industry.

The course will encompass skills used every day by those in the pub trade that may not be apparent to the outside world such as marketing, PR, accounting and writing business plans.

Candidates will also be shown how to put a CV together before undergoing real interviews with operators looking for staff, who Knowles is hoping to partner. “We get real people in, offering real jobs from our sector,” said Knowles. “The best people will go to the best operators, offering the best jobs.”

BII chief executive Neil Robertson said: “Keith is showing real leadership and we fully support him. It is a superb gesture.”
