One of the founders of HIT (Hospitality Industry Training) has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

John Hyde, who was involved with establishing HIT in 2006, has been recognised with the honour for his services in the further education and training sectors.

Mr Hyde has over 30 years’ experience in worked-based learning for the Hospitality Industry and established Hospitality Plus before founding HIT. HIT, meanwhile, has supported more than 100,000 learners in its 10 year existence.

Reacting to being awarded the CBE, Mr Hyde said: “I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of all my staff at HIT and other colleagues working to deliver apprenticeships and upskill the country.

“The satisfaction for me is seeing employees in the hotel and catering sector gain skills, confidence and competence through their apprenticeship to improve their life chances and earning potential.”

Mr Hyde, executive chairman at HIT, will collect the award at Buckingham Palace later this year.
