RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street Ken, we are 26 days into the ban. Some Japanese soldiers were still in the woods 40 years after the war. There have been comments in the past about the failure of HMG to make the public aware of the ban. You sctually believed non-smokers were just waiting for the all clear to run into pubs? The work has just begun. This post replies to Ken Nason > RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street |

RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street Nothing wrng with that at all Nigel. We ARE in business and we have bills to pay and families depending on us for their income. That is quite a responsibility. This post replies to Nigel Maud > RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street |

RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street Nigel, I suspect you already recognise the distinction between prudent and justified or moral. Sure some of us have an opportunity to grab business, that is prudent. The moral issue is that a bunch of MPs have been influenced by pressure groups into passing a discriminatory law. It cannot be right (justifiable) or good (moral) to discriminate against a section of the public. Some of us feel quite strongly about the normative aspects of this. On the prudent side, the trade as a whole is an estimated 100-150 million pounds down already. That will have a knock on effect on the economy as a whole. So what, if a few people cash in, in the end we will all pay. This post replies to Nigel Maud > RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street |

RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street Gilbert, at least the quality of ironic humour is improving on this site.
I do not really care about the fabled non-smoker who didn’t previously visit the pub and am certainly not going to start pandering to them now. My customers go away for the summer and return on the 1 st of October whereupon they will be able to do as they please, business as usual. I have no need of a plan A or B.
You are welcome to the anti-smoking non-customers. I like the real folk, smokers and non-smokers alike provided they are tolerant and fun.
What I do care about is the erosion of freedom that has turned my country into a nanny/police state.
I appreciate fully that stance of F2C. It is a laudable attempt to demonstrate the technical paucity of the legislation. This is not the F2C web site. It is one for publicans and there seems to be plenty of people who do want to stand up for freedom. You are of course entitled to cave in to commercial pressure or a bigoted view of smokers but that won’t change the facts that this legislation is justified by lies and propagated by bigots. It will fail as all previous prohibition has failed. We might just save a lot of decent landlords if we get together and act sooner rather than later. RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street I see that even those in favour (no names mentioned, you know who you are) are starting to see the problems: http://www.southmanchesterreporter.co.uk/news/s/230/230675_noise_nuisance_smokers.html This post replies to Iain Page > RE: Pubs warned over smokers drinking in street |
