RE: Early smoking ban pub forced to close Dee-jay Royal is deluding himself. nearly 4 years on in Ireland the punters haven't come back and as Donal posted on another thread pubs continue to close some 1400 according to hi first hand knwoledge. I think he said that's about 10%. If that is repeated in the the rest of the UK that will be at least 6000. not counting clubs of all types most notably Bingo Clubs, as I posted earlier. I take no pleasure in any closure however F2C did question the wisdom of the 'great and good' who said do it early. I posted that when the 'level playing' field' finally arrived any perceived advantage would disappear, in Mr Royals case he witnessed first hand that his smokers were not replaced by hordes of smokers in his nice newly refurbished venue. I congratulate him for at least having the courage to admite what happened and why is happened. This post replies to this thread |

RE: Early smoking ban pub forced to close I mentioned the pubs within sight of ours on this forum a couple of weeks ago. One is doing OK because it has a garden and caters for a loyal customer base of ale drinkers; one was for sale before the ban and has had to halve its asking price; one is empty but always was; one has gone on the market and is now empty because it has no outside space and the one that went non-smoking after a refit went bust a week into the ban. One of our staff has just returned from Ireland where, to the horror of his non-smoking zealot parents, the five bars they visited all had smoking back-rooms. And we are told the ban is succesful in Ireland. This post replies to Robert Feal-Martinez > RE: Early smoking ban pub forced to close |
