RE: Pub takings 'down as much as 40%' says Mirror From F2C site
A quickish update on my area, Kentish Town, NW London.
In my local area there are 4 main pubs I visit. Since the ban has come into force, they are all very quiet. The weather also has something to do with it, as people dont want to stand outside having a cigarette in the pouring rain (apart from ne and my umbrella).
However there is one pub that has a vast open area, that is enclosed with canvas. They, at the moment, are not allowing smoking in there, but we hope to persuade them otherwise. Last night there was only 5 people in the whole pub which can easily accomodate 100 people (they have upstairs rooms too). This place is normally buzzing on a Thursday as are the other pubs in my area, but not at the moment.
Thelandlord thinks the ban is a bad thing for his business generally and is praying for warmer weather as he also has a large space at the front of the pub with seats which are all uncovered. One other pub has a garden, with big umbrella type coverings, which doesn't cover the whole garden, so everyone tries to huddle underneath it for a cigarette! They do food and always have a good trade for that, but they are noticing a decline in people sitting in the rest of the pub.
The other two pubs are general boozers, again all quiet, even on quiz night on Tuesday it was half full, and everyone goes outside for a cigarette every few minutes. The last pub is right on the edge of Hampstead Heath, so a great place for a swift one or two, and that was absolutely dead on Wednesday. Yes I have been to them all this week, I have lost lots of pub friends as everyone I know smokes, some dont bother to go to the pub now. Its not the greatest experience sitting in a very sterile environment not being able to have a cigarette with your pint, I feel like I am being stared at when I go out for a smoke, which is most odd, and maybe I have become paranoid which is not surprising really, as we smokers are seen at the mome This post replies to Robert Feal-Martinez > RE: Pub takings 'down as much as 40%' says Mirror |

RE: Pub takings 'down as much as 40%' says Mirror There are more and more stories like this coming to F2C. Indeed last start I stopped off at a pub in Swindon reknouned for it's Wednesday quiz night. It's not unusual for them to have 40 teams competing, and yet last night instead of standing room only there were still tables to be had. There was no real buzz, the manger unlike him, just seemed to be going through the motions. A lad I knwo came up and said, where has all the atmosphere gone Bob? Where indeed. Those who watched Richard and Judy would have heard Valerie the other licensee making exactly the same comment.
