RE: Gambling changes warning for pubs

Licensees should also take note that authorities are aware that there are a number of operators who think all they require is a Revenue and Customs Licence and do not have a current Section 34 certificate. Whilst these authorities may not be taking action now some have indicated that they shall be taking action post 1 September.

Licensees should note that under the Gambling Act 2005 most pubs have the right to 2 gaming machines. In order to exercise this the pub must serve notice on the Licensing Authority and submit a one off fee of £50.

Premises are permitted to have more than 2 machines but must apply for a permit in order to be able to provide 3 or more machines.

Operators should check now what they have and have not in place in regard to gaming machines.

Also be aware of the restrictions on poker games, my advice is do not charge your players to play poker. Either pick a free to play poker league or just run entertainment nights. The chances of problems occuring with gambling are high and likely to cause problems with the local councils and constabulary.

So then chaps, whilst the advice is flowing freely, how does my local village hall fare in organising poker nights to raise funds. It is a charity and has a full license with austensively no restrictions on it.

Genuine question.
