NRT doubles quit rate on its own. Who says so. Cancer Research UK, so we believe that don't we? No doubt the research was funded by Big D

Wardy, Never mind the coffee; it's more like smelling the microbes in the cold ice of commercial reality. Your excellent post also forgot to mention the negative influence over the past 2 - 3 years of the home entertainment systems coupled with DVD & PS3 games etc downloads which when combined with the sub cost supermarket purchases just adds to the woes you have referred to.

We can do all that you mention wrt the quality of service, product selection and overhead control but somehow we also have to winch the punters off their loungers, into the cold and through our front door; only to have to send them into the cold again for their cigarettes. All this against a disposable income whose leisure pennies have all but been taken by stealth taxes etc.

So the big boys won't smell the microbes until the ice melts over the pile of businesses which are and continue to go to the wall; by which time, as you say it will be too late.
