RE: Smoke ban forces pubs to re-think

The plight of Scotland will not really be known until March at the earliest when they come out of the winter and even then the full financial impact will not unfold for another six months, but confidential VAT and tax revenue information is already showing tax revenues' down 40 to 50 percent from some operators. But of course the Scottish Executive will not tell the people of Scotland that because in the end that will impact on the UK revenue not directly Scotland. This is because Scotland is ring fenced by the Barnet formula.

RE: Smoke ban forces pubs to re-think

19 pubs closed? Thats nothng out of 3000

And interesting to see the quote "The survey also finds that operators have not cut prices to attract customers since the ban came in."

In a previous post regarding Scottish sales a commissioned poll 'showed a fall in precent sales'. However the Scottish Minister said there had been a drop in the increase in sales.

I challenged this saying an drop in increase is still an increase. Wise old Ken then went on saying I didn't know about the trade saying how the trade had to reduce prices. I asked where was the proof. What do you know they haven't reduced prices.

Not too stupid now, hey Ken?

RE: Smoke ban forces pubs to re-think

This is the tip of the iceberg, The total amount of pubs closed due to the smoking ban in the South of England will be massive, we struggle to cope with the overheads down here anyway and licensing have made it impossible to compete with off-sales, but the closure of these pubs will take time, as it takes a while for the debts to build up past the managable amount. my advice to anyone who knows they are going under, is; Don't leave anyone a forwarding address!

18 months from now, you will realise the damage that labour and thier friends with supermarkets have done to the pub trade. Anyone thinking this is a good thing should rememeber that the fewer pubs that are left will have to charge a lot more than they do at the moment, so it will be you who is out of pocket!
