RE: 10% profit drop since smoke ban for hosts Phil, CIU is the Clubs and Institute Union all those great value working mens' clubs and so on across the land are/used to be CIU affiliated. I remember under age drinking in incredibly smoky CIU clubs when I was a nipper. This post replies to wayne massey > RE: 10% profit drop since smoke ban for hosts |

RE: 10% profit drop since smoke ban for hosts Maybe if EVERY trade body continues the CIU stance, (can you offer what was actually discussed Bill) we may trigger a nuisance factor. Don't pussyfoot around, let's tell them how it is, not just the smoking ban, but all that is affecting our industry. A unified and concerted stance. Does anyone know how many and who the trade bodies are? Non specifically trade, such as the FSB, who have helped in the past, may also join the mix. Is the BII up for a challenge? RE: 10% profit drop since smoke ban for hosts The CIU wanted what everyone wants.. smokers inside within Designated Smoking Rooms. Most of the Trade Bodies sold out to the Health Department well before the ban was introduced and even sat round the table with ASH et al before the vote in Parliament. The resonses to date are wishy washy to say the least, one approach to consider is the NAL http://nationalassociationoflicensees.co.uk and at the risk of being slagged off by Alan Thompson et al Freedom to Choose http://www.freedom2choose.info now officially recognised by HMG as they have an editorial being published in tomorrows edition of the House Magazine. RE: 10% profit drop since smoke ban for hosts Can someone explain how free house prices will drop the prices depemds on how much people can borrow lower the rates higher the price, and supply pub companies buying up freehouses every chance they get ,then close down their own failures. Im turning down one offer aweek on average if I sold where could I buy,The reasons pubs are closing has nothing to do with the smoking ban it is contempt, contempt by breweries contempt by area managers contempt by reps contempt by everyone for the poor publican nothing changes we never managed to get a good write up in the Bible. RE: 10% profit drop since smoke ban for hosts James Is the four fold increase in closures since July 1st pure coincidence? Presumably the breweries and area managers suddenly quadrupled their levels of contempt during the past 7 months, resulting in sudden drops in sales. Smokers and friends staying at home, or spending less time and money in pubs is then obviously because of their disdain for the pub trade. RE: 10% profit drop since smoke ban for hosts All For those of you who are unaware, the smoking ban will be reviewed within 3 years of its enactment. Here is a quote from an email received by an F2C member from David Cameron regarding the Review of the smoking ban.
"The Government Minister previously responsible for the smoking ban, Caroline Flint, has assured us that the Government are committed to a review of the legislation, so if any problems occur which were not expected while the legislation was being formulated, the legislation may be reconsidered." So, its not all done and dusted. The pub trade is first in the firing line of the economic impact of the ban. It is, however up to those who form part of the trade to make themselves heard about how their livlihoods have been affected. The fact that 'if problems occur which were not expected' isnt bait enough to make some noise, i dont know what is. Dont forget ASH and friends promised a huge influx of non-smokers to the hospitality trade post post July 1st. Of course those expectations have not materialised. As Bill posted earlier there are routes you can take to fight back and make sure that if not before, when the review takes place, there will be thousands of you ready to hold HMG to account and remind them of the post ban problems that have occured, apparently 'not expected'. RE: 10% profit drop since smoke ban for hosts Andy unfortunately history has shown that it will be treated like all other "consultations" carried out by this government. Carry out the sham of asking then ignore what is said and continue with whith your planned agenda regardless.
Democracy Labour style spelled D-i-c-t-a-t-e.
