News Article Comments : MP barred pub for smoke ban support

A Manchester licensee has barred his local MP from drinking in his pub for voting for the smoking ban.

Robinson's tenant Roger Hantulik has put up posters warning Labour MP David Heyes he is not welcome at the Prince of Orange in Ashton-under-Lyne.

"He took away my choice to have smokers in my pub, so I have taken away his choice to drink here," said Hantulik.

"Trade has halved here since the ban. The average age of our customers is 40 years old and up and they were good drinkers and good smokers. Now they have gone. They sit at home drinking cheap crates of beer from the supermarkets and smoking.

"The pub is dying and I am not sure how long I can hold on here."

Hantulik has been in the trade for 20 years and at the Prince of Orange for seven years.

But MP Heyes did not seem overly bothered claiming he had not been in the pub for about eight years.

"I think the majority of people object to smoky pubs. I would vote for a smoking ban again if I had to."

" I think the majority of people object to smoky pubs"

I think the majority of people object to baldies with beards.

Both statements either equally valid or equally a load of bull.

You decide.

Who is this majority he is talking about? Is this the same majority who pre-ban were polled and asked if they would be drinking in pubs when they became smoke free, they assured us that they would all become pub goers when the ban arrived. I think as a collective trade body we are all still waiting their arrival. Perhaps just once thay should poll the real people who enjoy the social aspect of pub life and ask them what they would like to see in what is in fairness their environment. I can bet what the majority would answer!

David Heyes is hiding smuggly behind his 13,952 majority, all it needs is for the smokers in his area not ot vote for him. When he canvasses at the next election all the pubs in his area should display posters vowing not to vote for Labour. Roger Hantulik and the rest of the Publicans in his constituency should join our campaign "CAN'T SMOKE, WON'T VOTE". He said he does'nt care about people in smokey pubs, tell him you don't care about him and throw him out of his cushy parliamentary seat. Roger you are not alone in fighting this ban if you are willing to get involve with this campaign, please give me a call 07983612990

RE: MP barred pub for smoke ban support

If only licencees would follow this Sean I'm sure things would start moving in the right direction. Look at how the MP'S are panicking now their expenses are under scrutiny. If enough pubs put up these type of posters and sent the results to their MP to let them know their job and therefore their fiddles were under attack we might see a quick reversal. But the Tories must be attacked in this way also so that they have to think about 12 million smoking votes that are up for grabs On smokescreen-online.co.uk we have direct links to all MP's H
