The Churchill Arms in Kensington has been crowned London's Best Loved Local.
The Fuller's managed pub pipped 400 other pubs to the top award in Stella Artois' Love Your Local campaign, spearheaded by actor Jason Flemyng, to reward pubs that do the most for their communities.
Churchill Arms licensee Gerry O'Brien scooped a prize pot of £8,500. The runners-up prizes of £5,000 went to the Nightingale in Balham, the George Tavern in Stepney and the Punch Tavern in Fleet Street.
One of the judges and esteemed food and drink critic Charles Campion said: "The local pub should be the heart of any community and it was great to see so many pubs working so hard and achieving so much."

RE: Churchill Arms is London's Best Loved Local Great stuff Churchill Arms, well done and many congratulations! My pub, The Sun and Doves, another great community local, along with many others, couldn't even be included in the running for this high profile award because we cannot sell Stella Artois under the terms of my S&NPE tie. Funnily enough The Nightingale was my local when I first moved to London in 1984. No doubt Kronenbourg will be announcing a copycat award soon. Charles Campion reviewed The Sun and Doves highly in 1998 when we were in the Evening Standard's Top Ten Pubs in London Awards. Was that really ONLY a decade ago? edited by: J Mark Dodds at: 28/10/2008 17:09:41 This post replies to this thread |

Churchill Arms is London's Best Loved Local Licensee Gerry O’Brien has been the Fuller’s manager here for many, many years and thoroughly deserves this award. I always try and visit The Churchill when I’m in the capital. Gerry likes to play a little trick on customers by pretending to trip and spill a pint of Guinness over them using one of those old Guinness fonts which looks like a pint. The funniest part is that Gerry has played this trick 1000’s of times and he still laughs as if it’s the first time he has done it! This post replies to this thread |

Churchill Arms is London's Best Loved Local AHA Graham! That's a Cracker! I'm sure Gerry deserves it - and I've no gripes whatsoever with the nominees or the winners of the Stella Artois awards but A BIG problem with the situation that excludes many able lessees from even being involved because they CANNOT stock a product because it's not in their tied portfolio. edited by: J Mark Dodds at: 28/10/2008 18:00:32 This post replies to Graham Barr > Churchill Arms is London's Best Loved Local |

Churchill Arms is London's Best Loved Local Splendid fellow is Gerry and a hearty well done. He used to have - perhaps still does - a marvellous way of greeting friends on entry: he'd blow an old claxon type hooter and announce you to the bar! Quite intimidating when it first happens to you. Sadly, I knew him only briefly and through a mutual friend, so it is is marvellous to hear of him again. This post replies to Graham Barr > Churchill Arms is London's Best Loved Local |
