Coronation Street bar maid Kym Marsh is to lead a campaign to Save the Great British Pub.
Marsh, who was also part of pop band Hear'say, will be the figurehead of a new campaign to be launched by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) on 27 November at Westminster.
The BBPA says that 36 pubs are closing each week and 44,000 jobs have been lost between 2000-2005.
Beer sales have also plummeted to their lowest level since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
"Pubs play a vital role in the social life of communities up and down the country — and are an essential part of promoting a more responsible drinking culture," a spokesman said. "It is time to stand up for a Great British tradition and save the pub."

RE: Corrie star to head Save Great British Pub campaign please correct me if I am wrong but, is there not already a campaign running called save the great brittish pub, run by Inez Ward & Justice for Licensees http://justiceforlicensees.org/campaigns/default.html and also running on facebook. Part of that campaign is about fairness from the pub co's will that be the same stance from the BBPA? I very much doubt it!! This post replies to this thread |

RE: Corrie star to head Save Great British Pub campaign This is a true story lol. I welcome the BBPA and Camra to join the campaign to Save the Great British Pub. This has been a campaign nearly 12 months in the making, with over 1000 members, including celebrities. I would have preferred that there was some discussion beforehand, but hey ho, the important thing is saving the Great British Pub. The areas covered are the credit crunch (now a recession), supermarket Pricing (not for the prices that is their choice, but for the consequences), government legislation (including tax hikes and the smoking ban) and pubcos. RE: Corrie star to head Save Great British Pub campaign John you are 100% correct there, the pub co's have tried taking over the save the great british pub campaign, and as you cearly state is ran by Inez. It makes me laff that they have to stoop so low as to try and take over a campaign that is already up and running. The other thing that makes me laff is the way they go on about the pubs closing, If the pub co's charged fair rent, and beer prices then the pub industry just might survive more than it is now. RE: Corrie star to head Save Great British Pub campaign I am appalled and gobsmacked that the BBPA and Camra have stolen a campaign that a dedicated landlady has shed blood, sweat and tears in making. Do they have any conscience or shred of humanity? Is there no end to their theiving ways? Not only are they stripping people up and down the country of thier livelihoods but now they have resorted to playground tactics. I'm not actually sure why i am surprised? Keep fighting the fight Inez, there are alot of landlords and landladies that acknowledge what you are doing and are very grateful. This post replies to this thread |

Corrie star to head Save Great British Pub campaign It's hardly surprising BBPA has sneakily hijacked Inez' excellent idea of grass roots representation for our industry. But I am shocked that CAMRA are in bed with the devil. Corrie star to head Save Great British Pub campaign yes the save the great british pub campaign has indeed been !!STOLEN!! created by Inez Ward and run by Inez and JFL. I am aware of all effort time and feelings put into this campaign to help save licencees all over Great Britain just for it to be taken from them. It is out of order and morally wrong. This campaign ha been on facebook for several months now joined by many who are fighting for the same thing as Inez. It least inez is in this truely with all amotions and feeling not a soap star hired to do her job and act as if she has as much envolvement and concern as Inez but it is not possible. They may have stolen the campaign but they can not steel the envolvement we all have so let us join together and fight these frauds! Corrie star to head Save Great British Pub campaign Non copywrited use of words if you want to talk like a suit, but to the people that matter, the landlords, the landladies, the locals, the general public - these are not the words that they would use. This has angered a great many people and making posts such as the above, stating that this 'takes nothing away from the original activists' is only going to disrespect people even further. THIS is the reality check sweetheart, landlords and landladies up and down the county are having their lives ruined by being in this business and it's people like you who are actively encouraging them and making them think their actions are acceptable.
