John Ryan

Coronation Street bar maid Kym Marsh is to lead a campaign to Save the Great British Pub.

Marsh, who was also part of pop band Hear'say, will be the figurehead of a new campaign to be launched by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) on 27 November at Westminster.

The BBPA says that 36 pubs are closing each week and 44,000 jobs have been lost between 2000-2005.

Beer sales have also plummeted to their lowest level since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

"Pubs play a vital role in the social life of communities up and down the country — and are an essential part of promoting a more responsible drinking culture," a spokesman said. "It is time to stand up for a Great British tradition and save the pub."

Corrie star to head Save Great British Pub campaign

Non copywrited use of words if you want to talk like a suit, but to the people that matter, the landlords, the landladies, the locals, the general public - these are not the words that they would use. This has angered a great many people and making posts such as the above, stating that this 'takes nothing away from the original activists' is only going to disrespect people even further. THIS is the reality check sweetheart, landlords and landladies up and down the county are having their lives ruined by being in this business and it's people like you who are actively encouraging them and making them think their actions are acceptable. It is people like Inez Ward who are fighting against that. You cannot take that away from her.

Martin, reality check indeed, well here's a reality check that I am sure that some will not like in the public domain, but for fear of repeating myself, I no longer care what this ilk of poeple think!

The Justice for licensees Save the Great British Pub campaign was set up coming up for nearly a year ago now, after a discussion on a certain thread and a letter in the Daily Mail. It was designed with the licensees in mind and therefore covers all aspects that affect licensees, it does not pick and choose to suit it's own agenda! As whatever affects licensees will sooner or later affect all areas of the trade all areas of the trade were invited to join and support this campaign. Yes you've guessed it,the BBPA and Camra included! There are two words which some this campaign up responsibility and accountability.

The areas covered by the campaign are supermarket pricing, for which the supermarkets must take a responsibility for the consequences of selling cut price alcohol and be held accountable! Credit crunch, not to tackle it but to highlight the good of the Great British Pub and is historical and cultural value and in so doing perhaps preventing the effects of the credit crunch in a small way.

Cont.....

Government legislation from tax hikes to the smoking ban to red tape, the government have to take some responsibility for the decline in the Great British Pub and be held accountable. Pubcos, we believe that a pubco model ran correctly could be beneficial to all parties concerned. It is apparent to most that this has not been the case, obviously as there was a government investigation in 2004 this is not a new phenomenon and the credit crunch has only highlighted the problems within the model. The pubcos have to take responsibility for their actions and must be held accountable so that the model may then move forward to fight with their licensees against all the rest of the adversities that this trade is facing.

Until this trade joins together and fights together it will continue to be seen as an easy pray for any Tom, <stop>****</stop> or Harry who wishes to abuse it! Now that is what I call a reality check lol!
