Enterprise has promised a series of change to its lease agreements, including more discounts and “royalty-free” AWP machine share options, in a letter to Business Secretary Lord Mandelson.
The company has set out 13 commitments in a letter to Mandelson, in which the firm argues against a fresh investigation into the beer tie.
The Business and Enterprise Committee (Bec) recommended a new Competition Commission probe and Mandelson’s department is set to decide what action to take within the next few weeks.
Here are the commitments in full:

"Enterprise believes that tenants and lessees would benefit from the existence and availability of a national, independent body, similar in constitution and capability to the Federation of Licensed Victuallers’ Association. This should be resourced to provide advice, support and representation to all licensees, including individual tenants and lessees. We are willing to provide financial support to facilitate the establishment and ongoing operat

A Challenge to Enterprise. If you are serious about implementing all these 13 proposals. Why not act now and convince your lessees that you are serious. Set up Deeds of Variation for all rent reductions that you have agreed to. Remove the full tie that has been imposed on all pubs that have had a rent reduction caused by hardship. Systematically work through your estate and give all your lessees 28 days credit to get them back to having a reasonable cash flow, whilst you enjoy greatly extended credit from your suppliers. Give achievable incentive discounts based on £150.00+ per barrel to all pubs so that they know that they can regularly make their discounts and have an incentive to invest in their business, not hate EI like a millstone round the neck. It's not hard to work with your tenants to get the best out of them, it's just that you appear to have lost the plot years ago, how about trying to change with deeds rather than words. I listened to a presentation by Nick Light EI Director, after he had finished I asked him which Enterprise Inns he worked for because what he said bore no relation to the comments about the Enterprise that I was getting from the lessees. We had a meaningful discussion and nothing really changed, maybe it has taken a long time for my comments to reach the policy makers, though I doubt my comments even registered, but if they are committed to change lets see some action. I'll believe it when I see it. Words come easy and we should all take it with a very liberal pinch of salt. This post replies to Nigel Wakefield > Enterprise promises reform |

Alan, the whole thing is a game of bluff, but the bluffing has to stop somewhere, the Pub Co's have their backs to the wall financially and operationally, playing for time is not an option, there are too many high profile people involved. Most of which would like to claim that they are the saviours of the ills of the industry. Fair Pint instigated this action out of necessity, others like me joined in because I had so many BII members calling me for advice, now Phil Dixon is the BII advice line and I talk to non members. Strangely Phil would appear to have moved over in opinions, having had to answer the help line for a few months. Fair Pint and people like me have had a lot of stick from a lot of sources in the industry and many more people are asking questions in the right places with their MP's etc, the momentum is there. If we all ask Enterprise to back up their talk with deeds, it will be a start, if they don't perform they will lose even more credibility after their showing in the Select Committee, they have lost an enormous amount of corporate face and they have to act, there are too many people watching them. Nigel they can bluff until the cows come home, all of them. Nothing short of a miracle is going to change what is currently transpiring! This post replies to Nigel Wakefield > Enterprise promises reform |

Inez I agree, but it is worth throwing out a challenge, put up or shut up. They are banking on not doing anything and hoping it will all go away. But if they fail to do anything it is another nail in their coffins. If at the end of a fortnight we get a whole lot of lessees saying that their BDM has offered a Deed of Variation on a rent reduction, it will be a start. I have a number in my area, if I don't hear from them the Leopard has still got all his Spots. This post replies to Inez Ward > Enterprise promises reform |

I agree entirely Nigel, an awful lot in this trade are going to have to start putting up or shutting up. Are they going to listen, probably not until it is too late. This post replies to Nigel Wakefield > Enterprise promises reform |

RE: Enterprise Inns promises reform christopher carling of the Victoria Washington It is hard to read or understand the comments made in this article. we have been in negotiations with our highly trained BDM (tongue in cheek) for a total of 11 months!!!!!!! regarding the fall of trade and ever increasing overheads not to mention the cost of our tied products which forces us to compete against six other bars in our area selling pints at least 60p cheaper. come on wake up Enterprise assist and you shall reap Eleven months and still no answer ???? enterprise are a joke ! christoper carling (again) from the Victoria Washington Tyne & Wear Why is it the BDM from Enterprise wont even return phone calls regarding a rescue package? Why is it when he does (now and again reply) he never bothers to follow up on promises made to me and my wife regarding lowering beer prices to compete with local pubs with NO TIES not to mention the Clubs around?? It seems to me a total stalling tactic in the hope we go under to hand the keys to the next unfortunate business person willing to hand money over for fixtures and fittings and for them to fail because of there underhand tactics ! I challenge any one at Enterprise to say its any different than i Put it!!! you have my name my pub name come on Enterprise stop treating us like fools!!!!! This post replies to this thread |
