News Article Comments : Sweet pub snacks are way forward

Jammie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels and Maryland Cookies could soon be as much a part of a pub’s snack offer as cheese & onion crisps.

That is following a move by Burton Foods to launch an out-of-home snacking division.

The company, which owns and bakes the above brands as well as Cadbury’s chocolate biscuits under licence, has developed new pack formats especially for pubs, restaurants and hotels as part of the move.

“We’ve tailored our products specifically for the foodservice sector to capitalise on the growing out-of-home snacking market,” said Chris Bampton, business account manager.

Products include 40g munch bags of Maryland Cookies and Cadbury Mini Fingers and two-pack formats of Maryland Cookies, Cadbury Chocolate Digestives and Shortcakes containing just two biscuits.

The company estimates that 54% of snacks are eaten out of the home.

RE: Sweet pub snacks are way forward

Excellent stuff. This is leading edge business development information, particularly of use to the tied sector where product margins are so tight that making a profit is like a blue moon in a month of Sundays. Don't ignore it. If you're losing money because of your combined rent and tied beer prices - buy in Wagonwheels and watch your business fortunes turn round.
