Police disappointed at underage alcohol sales > RE: Police disappointed at underage alcohol sales

What is the matter with these licensees?   If the authorities have one big stick with which to bash the industry to death, it is this, underage sales.   If Challenge 21 isn't good enough - though it should be - then practise Challenge 30 but, for the sake of us all, stop selling to kids!

RE: Majority in favour of greater tobacco control > RE: Majority in favour of greater tobacco control

You beat Albert to it Alan.   Like lemmings the pro-smoking lobby keep on queuing up... to lose an argument!   Next please.....

RE: Majority in favour of greater tobacco control > RE: Majority in favour of greater tobacco control

Morteeee says that SHS might contribute to death but it isn't the recorded cause of death.     Using the seat belt analogy my dear (gender neutral) 'not wearing a seat belt' isn't a recorded cause of death either is it? But it is a pretty dumb thing to do!      Can you really not seeee that Morteeee? Anyway this is just the beginning.  Another 5 years and you won't be able to smoke in your own home if there is a minor present.   It's called child protection and action is as overdue on this as it was on domestic violence a generation ago.

RE: Majority in favour of greater tobacco control > RE: Majority in favour of greater tobacco control

You're quite right of course Mort (interesting name for a smoker!).  One cannot possibly compare SHS which kills thousands every year with the comparatively few unfortunates that pass through a car windscreen.     Of course, smokers who care so little about their children that they are perfectly happy to blow poison into their uncorrupted young lungs probably won't have them belted up either....

RE: Majority in favour of greater tobacco control > RE: Majority in favour of greater tobacco control

the first person to tell me to wear a seatbelt in my PRIVATELY owned vehicle (weather (sic) my child is present or not) had better duck!   Mmm

RE: MP: Smoking ban has alienated Labour's support > RE: MP: Smoking ban has alienated Labour's support

And of course the pro smoke lobby conveniently ignores the 'majority' of the population - yes majority Ken - who would roast a Tory government alive if they ever brought back foul smelling, air polluting, haze forming, artery clogging, bronchial bashing, heart stopping tobacco use in our wonderfully fresh pubs.

RE: Hull bids to be first glass-free city > RE: Hull bids to be first glass-free city

Why did you accept this treatment Robin? Why, when you were told you couldn't sit outside and drink out of a glass, did you not cancel the food order and move on to another pub?   Why when you were served lager in a 'hot' glass did you not tell them to take it away? Unless you complain old chap, they'll do the same thing to the next customer.   Any venue that serves a drink in a plastic beaker cares not a jot for either the product or the customer.     What it does show is that the licensee is prepared to roll over in the face of police pressure and accept these declining values and standards.   One should give such premises a very wide berth, which thankfully is fairly easy when it comes to Hull!

Thurrock MP wants ADZ > RE: Thurrock MP wants ADZ

Thurrock's Labour MP Andrew MacKinlay says an Alcohol Disorder Zone "will enhance an area, because people will stay in one place. Estate agents will say: ‘We are in an alcohol disorder zone, isn’t that a good thing?’”   It's certainly a good reason to sell a house in Thurrock Mr MacKinlay!   Labour really have pressed their self-destruct button....

MP: Make pubs use 125ml wine glasses > RE: MP: Make pubs use 125ml wine glasses

Some of these people are jackasses with no idea how the market works.  Do they not realise that in most premises 2 x 125ml glasses of wine will propably represent less value for money, and therefore  more in the pub tills,  than 1 x 250ml or even 1 x 175ml?     Notwithstanding that one would have to disturb one's flow mid meal to unnecessarily top up your wine glass.   No criticism of the supermarkets of course who serve up their wine in 750 ml glasses known as bottles!   Perhaps we should serve beer only in half pints in Leeds North West so as to protect Greg Mulholland's constituents from themselves.    He obviously believes his fellow man to be so stupid and  irresponsible that they couldn't possibly cope with a pint!

Can't wait to see the association's logo.    Something upstanding, Albert is sure!
