Greene King: What bad weather and smoking ban? > RE: Greene King: What bad weather and smoking ban?

I'm a Charles Wells Tenant. Since May my sales are down 30% and it was a sudden slump, the first four months of the year were great. I blame low supermarket prices, rises in intrest rates & the bad weather. I would probably put the smoking ban last on the list, but it quite possibly could be the final nail in the coffin for pubs like mine (wet led with little scope for expansion into food). I fail to see how Greene King pubs have shown increase in sales when the rest of us have suffered!

Trade slams Tory 'booze tax' plan > RE: Trade slams Tory 'booze tax' plan

Once again it's the pubs that suffer. In my pub I have a number of people who drink large quantities of alcohol but it doesn't make them start fights or cause havock on the high street. The people who vomit, fight & vandalise other peoples hard earnt possesions in high streets up & down the country every week are a part of our ever growing dissrespectfull society, who are ruining it for the rest of us! In my local supermarket they are selling packs of 20 cans of Britains most popular lager at a buy two for £16 offer, making it less than 50p a pint. Surely it is irresponssible for the supermarkets to sell alcohol so cheap. Can't the government see that cheap supermarket booze makes the trouble makers binge drink at home & then 'top up' their alcohol intake in pubs or clubs.

Welsh smoker builds pub in back garden > RE: Welsh smoker builds pub in back garden

A very clever way around the law & who can blame him for doing this, who will he be inviting to his 'private pub'? Will this force the closure of  his local pub & loss of livelyhood for the licencee? Surely it will if all their customers go to this private pub for give away beer rather than down the local they have frequented for years?

S&N raises beer and cider prices > RE: S&N raises beer and cider prices

First Carlsberg prices go up 15p a pint at the pump, now Fosters, Kronenbourg & S & N ciders! S & N blame rising energy costs, do they not think everyone has rising energy costs? Wholesalers, distributors, licencees... the list goes on. If we were all to raise prices to compensate for energy costs we'd be looking at 30p or even 40p extra a pint & then we really would lose customers what with their rising energy costs as well!!! Sky offers free Premplus deal > RE: Sky offers free Premplus deal

FREE PREM PLUS? This is an outrage! I don't subcribe to prem plus because only a handfull of matches are worth having, tommorows being one of them (arsenal v spurs), if it was free though surely all publicans would subcribe. I signed up to sky last January  for £511 a month, this has now risen to £575 a month. Inflation!!! I was never offered anything free. Only now have i been offered prem plus for the rest of the season at half price of £895. Which is still an insult. I am now considering a foreign system, the costs are far more reasonable & i believe as more people leave sky they will have to indroduce offers or reductions or will be forced to concentrate on personal household packages. Lets break this unfair crippling monopoly they have. Matt Stocker
