Give us your views on the smoking ban > RE: Give us your views on the smoking ban
Dave I would agree with your post. All of the pubs where I am are totally dead, trade is suffering badly. Point being why would someone who smokes pay to stand/sit outside when they can buy in from the supermarket and stop at home. The cost of a pint is nearing the £3 mark. Most of the young 18 to 25 yr olds smoke and they drink before they go out, then pub hop smoking inbetween. Older smokers of course are not prepared to pub hop. This government quite happily condones the sale of cigarettes taking £4 out of every £5 spent on them and then has the gall to tell owners of private property they carnt allow the use of this legal product on their private property, hyocrisy at its worst, and the trade rolled over unbelievable. The use of a legal product on private property should be the owners choice and no one elses. |

RE: MP: Smoking ban has alienated Labour's support > RE: MP: Smoking ban has alienated Labour's support
This MP is exactly correct, people who smoke and that is estimated to be 12 to 14 million people are sick to death of Labour and its anti smoking policies and sick of being picked on whilst at the same time the government collect billions in tax from the sale of cigarettes. This government has banned a legal product which it condones the sale of on private property -surely a communist principle. Whether smoking which is perfectly legal takes place on private property should be the owners decision and no one elses. the government caved in to the demands of ASH and similar organisations, taking no account of what would happen to businesses. This ban has cost them millions and millions of votes. |

RE: Tobacco licence system for Scotland > RE: Tobacco licence system for Scotland
Politicians have still not got the message have they, well when Labour starts this side of the border, implementing Scotlands laws carry on digging your grave I say, Labour havnt got a hope in hell of getting elected again people are sick to death of them telling you how to live your life whilst at the same time selling you the product, they have ruined the pub trade and are now starting on the shop trade in particular small businesses, it will be 50 years before they ever get elected again. |

Oxfordshire host hit with smoking ban fine > RE: Oxfordshire host hit with smoking ban fine
Alan there is one statistic you cannot twist that is the ONS which did a survey on whether the public wanted a total smoking ban, the result 67% did not only 33% did, of course this information was not released by the government until the vote in the house of commons had taken place. they instead used a survey done by YouGov paid for by ASH and CRUK who set the questions to give the answers/result they wanted. You realy must think everyone has dropped off the Apple Tree much like this corrupt government does. |

Neame: 8,000 pubs at risk after Budget > RE: Neame: 8,000 pubs at risk after Budget
Jane you dont need 1 short of a million votes, 12 to 14 million smokers will not be voting Labour or Liberal or any other party that dosent believe in Adults being allowed to make their own choices and Private Property Owners having their own choice as to whether a legal product can be used on their premises. I think though that the Grocers Industry will make a much stronger stand than the pub industry has, it dosent want to lose its customers either. |

Pub fag machines set to be axed > RE: Pub fag machines set to be axed
There is already a law to stop anyone under the age of 18 buying cigarettes, so what is the point of putting them under the bar or counter, plus as I understand it they are having their usual foul pictures placed on packets, another waste of money as no one will view them under the bar or counter. Communists to the last man these lot, they are going to get decimated at the polls. |

RE: Smoke rebel Blows hit with massive costs > RE: Smoke rebel Blows hit with massive costs
Strangely enough these rights to eject are exactly the same as private houesholders have with respect to anyone they decide should leave their premises or face the prospect of trespass. This is exactly correct, private property rights belong to the owner. Pubs and clubs are private property, they are not publically owned places. When governments start meddling with private property rights beware it is only the first step. As this particular government has shown with its latest increases in alcohol it is determined to close pubs down apart from those that the youngsters frequent where the majority of binge drinking occurs. Just as they did with cigarettes they will now impose huge increases on alcohol year on year until no one can afford a night out. They are destroying pubs which used to be the hub of the community. |

Smoke rebel Blows hit with massive costs > RE: Smoke rebel Blows hit with massive costs
Well my stance remains and will always remain the same. Pubs and clubs are privately owned, whether smoking takes place on the premises should be the owners choice and no one elses, not the smoker, not the non smoker and not government. Government control of private property is a communist principle, but then that is what this government realy is reds under the beds.. You may hate smoking but the choice of whether it occurs on private property should be the owners decision alone. No one is forced over the threshold of a pub no one is forced to work there. If this ban was realy wanted by customers it would not have been necessary to impose such large fines on publicans, they would have made their premises non smoking years ago. You can bury your head in the sand if you want to but the fact is pubs are closing at an alarming rate, jobs are being lost and private property rights are being trampled over. Do what you want in your own houses but dont tell me what to do in mine. |

Smoke rebel Blows hit with massive costs > RE: Smoke rebel Blows hit with massive costs
The size of this fine just shows how desparate Nu Labour are to try and force this ban to be a success. If you have to impose huge fines like this obviously they know the ban is not wanted by the majority of people. Corrupt justice system with a judge thats had his orders. If you were in any doubt about this government this says it all, roll on the next election. |
