Molson Coors goes for margin > Molson Coors goes for margin
All of which goes to show that James' opinion (or lack of one) goes no way towards answering my original assertion that the sales to the supermarkets are the ones that are causing the big manufacturers the least profit! John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

Pub industry calls for beer tax freeze > RE: Pub industry calls for beer tax freeze
Sadly, the Government shows little interest in saving jobs in our industry. It might have been better to concentrate on the loss of V.A.T. revenue every time the Government puts up duty, as more customers are pushed towards supermarkets, where the Value Added which can be taxed is a lot less. That would be more likely to get their attention! John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

Ellwood wants talks on daylight saving time shift > RE: Ellwood wants talks on daylight saving time shift
"Daylight saving time" was a WW1 response to getting increased production on farms and in factories. It's mad that twice a year, we have to change every clock and timepiece in the country, to achieve what......? I have a customer who is maintenance manager at a local hospital trust. Twice a year they have to change 40,000 timepieces, including all the automatic pumps that put medicine down the drips into patients. Think of the cost of that and then multiply it by every hospital, every company, every local authority in the country and ask yourself "why do we do this?". If it's just for the farmers in the North of Scotland, well I'm sorry, but they have their own Government now. If they want to keep changing North of the border, let them get on with it! We would be better picking one time all year (say G.M.T. + 1 hour) and sticking to it all year round. John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

Molson Coors goes for margin > RE: Molson Coors goes for margin
The key to their profitability must be the refusal to sell for little or no profit to supermarkets. Why would I stock a beer that is seeing huge price rises in my pub, if it still available for pocket money prices in the off-trade? That's one of the reasons that I won't stock Carling, Stella or any of the products that the supermarkets sell for buttons. John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

Uni landlord is bottom of class > RE: Uni landlord is bottom of class
Assuming that he held the existing lease (complete with terms and conditions), I suspect that the use of a good lawyer would cost him a darn site less than 10% of his G.P.! John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

RE: Rebrand of Caffrey's Irish Ale > RE: Rebrand of Caffrey's Irish Ale
Easy, I would never sell the stuff. However, for decent beers, it is a weaker beer, I sell it for a cheaper price, related to my buying-in price. John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

Record profits for Wetherspoon > RE: Record profits for Wetherspoon
Surely the phrase "The company has successfully concluded a new non-amortising £530m four-year facility, expiring in March 2014....This will replace the old facility of £435m" means that in 2014 they will owe £530 million to be re-paid in one lump sum? If that is correct, they have bought a four-year breathing space at the cost of a big headache in 2014. That may never be as big as the Provence or L&E type of headache, where the company was financed "on the never-never" but what options are open in 2014? Any financial experts out there to confirm or explain? John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

RE: Stop the binge drinking subsidy > RE: Stop the binge drinking subsidy
In which case, let them sell it at £10.01. I have no problem in supermarkets selling things cheaply, but I do have a problem with the public subsidising them to sell alcohol and other regulated drugs. So this isn't a torpedo to the argument, it backs it up. Thanks John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

Drinks producers slam Facebook report claims > RE: Drinks producers slam Facebook report claims
The Health Fascists are at it again. Half the stuff on Facebook may be complete rubbish but that doesn't mean to say Health officials can have control over what individuals may say. How about a campaign to get Health Officials to concentrate on Health Issues! John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |

Rebrand of Caffrey's Irish Ale > RE: Rebrand of Caffrey's Irish Ale
Only a few year's ago they watered it down from around 4.7% to 4.2% but didn't reduce the price, thereby pocketing a huge saving in duty. Now they are watering it down again, will they pass on the duty saved, I wonder? John Ellis Crown Inn, Oakengates |
