Oldham hits all its bars with reviews > Oldham hits all its bars with reviews
Stupendous. The only thing I don't see is a rule saying that people talking in the queue will be spanked. Is chewing gum allowed, or will you be sent to detention? I get one clear and simple message from this: if you want to be treated like a child, go for a pint in Oldham. Pathetic. And for industry leaders to support this puerile nonsense is beyond belief. Is there anything these people WON'T agree to? |

RE: Trade fights to halt massive power shift > RE: Trade fights to halt massive power shift
So, not content with ensuring 4-6 million smoking pub-goers stay away, the government want to urge the rest to stay away from pubs as well? Who in their right minds will happily sit in a pub, having a drink, and a few laughs, knowing that Big Brother is watching their every move? If the smoker ban, the recession, and the mountains of legislation don't manage to kill off our pubs, this certainly will. Am I forgiven for thinking that HMG just don't want people to gather? |

I am one of the 3000 who sent a letter. I am one of the 2000 who signed up to the campaign. I am one of the 8500 in the Facebook campaign. I am one of the 1200 who watched the YouTube videos. I am one of those people who warned you people over two years ago that this would happen. I am supporting your campaign. When will you support mine? |

Two-thirds pub pint plan > Two-thirds pub pint plan
I spent last week in Norway. I usually stuck to beer, but one night I asked for a large gin & tonic and was told that it is illegal for them to sell spirits in double measures. "Why don't I give you a gin & tonic", asked the barmaid, "and a single shot of gin?" Problem solved. It didn't cost any more than a double, but it still seemed like a senseless law to me. But I can well imagine the anti-alcohol brigade sleeping well at night thinking they have saved humanity. Will this new measure have any impact on how people judge whether they are fit to drive? Some people are confused now. My guess is that this wont help matters. |

RE: Pub crisis: Five close every day > RE: Pub crisis: Five close every day
Sorry to be late in replying, I am in Nigeria. Graham, there were no comments when I posted, so I am not sure what went wrong. H, I think most Licensees, much like Houstonians, are merely "hunkering down" and trying to ride out the storm. The hurricane is obviously real. The justification for this petty ban, is not. It is a fabrication and a fraud. The answer, as we both know, was to resist this nonsense before it started. The economic evidence from other nations was not an indication of a boom for pubs. The problem was and is, that the spin is being believed even to this day. I really dont know what it will take to wake up the complacent. Those praying for salvation will be bitterly disappointed. The reality is painfully apparent. If you just take a look in the top right hand corner of the MA main page you will see a little box saying "Check out the list of thousands of pubs for sale". If it is so wonderful, why are these "thousands of pub owners" desparate to sell? |

Pub crisis: Five close every day > RE: Pub crisis: Five close every day
I wonder if the anti-smokers on here are happy yet? At least they are getting their five a day. And since they don't visit pubs it's no loss to them at all. I remember being called a "doom and gloom merchant" two years ago on this very site when we predicted this carnage. No-one likes to hear "I told you so", but hell, we told you so every day for months and months. "It will all be fine", you said. If this is fine, I'd hate to see a negative outcome. Anyone ready to fight back yet? Or shall we give it another year or two? |

Of course not, Alan. The interpretation is spot on. We don't tell you everything you know. We didn't tell you that we asked the HSE themselves. We didn't tell you their answer. There is a reason for that. But hey, you keep digging that hole. It is amusing to watch. |

What about this, Alan? http://tinyurl.com/68cgxz Fact? Fiction? Scaremongering? Today you can thank your Gods that you are not a publican. Today you can sit back, relax, and witness the destructiveness of this smoker ban. Do thank your anti-smoker pals for us, won't you? |
