RE: JD Wetherspoon attempts world wine record > RE: JD Wetherspoon attempts world wine record

Surely us landlords should all be in the Guinness book of records for simultaneously selling beer at the same time should'nt we -  and no that would neither be classed as a national beer festival nor a world record.  Another JDW spin, I've heard enough.

RE: NI: 7% of pubs expected to close > RE: NI: 7% of pubs expected to close

Traffic fumes could be killing people at similar rates to the smogs of the 1950s, scientists claimed. In the 35 worst-affected areas there were 15,000 more pneumonia deaths over eight years than the national average. Lead researcher professor George Knox said he found an "exceptional" link between high rates of fatal pneumonia and exhaust fumes. This from a report in the Daily Mail online on 30th April 08 - and we all thought that cigarette smoke was to blame, didnt we! are you going to crusade to ban outdoor air pollution or do you think these statistics have been caused because smokers are now outside polluting the air?

RE: May Day call for pub support > RE: May Day call for pub support

It is going to take more than one bank holiday weekend to convince Joe Public to spend money in the pub.  Where exactly are the ALMR canvassing their plea, its no good just in the trade mags?  Why could they not shout louder before the industry got into such a dismal mess? It is a sad fact that (however succesful) the great british pub just aint what it used to be.  Red tape and bad media are suffocating our image.  Tied wet prices are forcing us out of a competative market.  Tied brand restriction prevent us from selling and promoting some fantastic ales many of which can be sourced directly from the micro brewers who also need our support.

RE: Spirit launches Grill House format > RE: Spirit launches Grill House format

Mark you took the words right out of my mouth! Cheap and cheerful usually results in bland and tasteless (both in food quality, decor and ambiance), quite depictive and appropriate do you not think?

Punch on full alert > RE: Punch on full alert

"Punch Taverns has begun an intensive eight-week "support drive" to focus on maximising help for its licensees" Well arent their tennants the lucky ones eh... Punch will get their BDM's to spend eight weeks doing something that they should be doing as standard within their job descriptions.  Before long the other pub cos will be jumping on this band waggon!  How many advisors did this decision take and at what cost?  Punch, you must feel elated with your decision, give yourselves a big pat on your backs (take off the ruc sacks loaded with money temporarily if it helps)

RE: Retail sales down in April > RE: Retail sales down in April

And we all thought that the non smokers were just staying out of the pubs!!!

RE: April beer volumes down by around 15% > RE: April beer volumes down by around 15%

When you say whizz kids Ken, I assume you mean those over paid advisors who fart out of their mouth and not their bum?! 12 months ago the major brewers and pub cos fed us all a dogs dinner of a story (thinking that us little uns in the main firing line would believe them and bow against our better knowledge) well now we all have the pleasure of watching them slowly eat what they tried to serve.  So, how does it taste...?

RE: Survey: 8% of smokers quit after ban > RE: Survey: 8% of smokers quit after ban

"A new survey shows that 8% of smokers attempted to quit as a result of the smoking ban" So exactly how many smokers are there in the UK and exactly how many of them have quit and not just attempted to ?  There is a fundamental difference in attempting to quit and actually giving up the habit so why not supply us with statistics that actually reflect the current condition? .

RE: Brulines monitoring trial extends to spirits > RE: Brulines monitoring trial extends to spirits

And for all the expense the pub co's go to in order to install this system it would be much easier, cost effective and partnership orientated if they just reduced their prices.  Fair and reasonable prices would certainly encourage most licensees not to buy out of tie and the problem ones could be dealt with accordingly.  Pub Co's - abolished the forced loyalty and corporate spying and get ahead of the game and promote good business relations with your tenants then maybe you would not have such a high turnaround through out your estates.

RE: Mulholland: Darling is killing pubs > RE: Mulholland: Darling is killing pubs

Alistair Darling...A Donkey or an ***!, you decide.....
