RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' Sound of black jackboots on the horizon or lack of common sense and negotiation abilities? Surely they are unable to enforce a time when it had to be done by as long as he did not use it for smoking until the regulations were met.
As with all of these draconian badly drafted stupid pc laws, when they are open to interpretation by council officials who are on power trips or have agendas the whole thing goes belly up. Surely this could have all been resolved amicably to everyones satisfaction with some negotiation and understanding on both parties.

RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' Quite right Ken, a little bit of understanding, discussion and common sense is what is required, heavy handed tactics gets nobody anywhere especially with this BAD Law. This post replies to this thread |

RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' And just remember we have been told by the Great and the Good there will be commonsense used. Mind you they said the same over licensing. Why do we as members pay these people, they simply have no concept of the 'power' freaks in most LA's. It seems the English ban has claimed it's first casualty even before it's here. A POPULAR couple who have run a traditional pub for seven years are calling last orders. Don and Sally Griffiths, both 55-years-old, are leaving the Mason Arms in Saffron Road, High Wycombe, because of tough competition from chain pubs and the smoking ban coming into force in July. The couple, who were previously in charge of the Rifle Butts in London Road for six years, say their pub relies heavily on lunchtime workers enjoying a drink and cigarette. RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' Ken said "Surely they are unable to enforce a time when it had to be done by as long as he did not use it for smoking until the regulations were met." The only reference to time is by the landlord. Would have thought he wanted to have it open at five and he was told he had to have the work done before he used it (at five) Maybe the council said they would do him a favour and come back at five rather than having to wait a few days until they could next come down. Hardly heavy handed. This post replies to Ken Nason > RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' |

RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' Jon, maybe this maybe that. Face it Jon you don't know what went on but that doesn't stop you making statements as if they were the knowledgeable truth. I quote" So they told me I had to take the sides down and I had until 5pm to do so." What I said was as long as the shelter wasn't used for smoking there was no problem and no time constraints could be put on it by the authorities. Quite simple Jon no conspiracy just an observation.
Oh! by the way where in my post did I say it was heavy handed?

RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' "HE" did nothing of the sort. "HE" quoted from the article. Ken, the article does say he couldn't use it until it was sorted. My comment is that the only time mentioned was by the landlord. And my suggestion is that he wanted it open by five so had to do the work by five. I bet the council couldn't care less when he opened it, as long as it conformed. This post replies to Ken Nason > RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' |

RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' The council enforcement team had to supply him with no smoking signs when they arrived and his shelter did not comply with the law.
Sounds like a thoroughly ill prepared licensee - who was treated in the manner he deserved!
Lessons to be learned there folks. Got your signs? Spoken to planners about your shelter? Do nothing and you too will be Taffed! This post replies to Robert Feal-Martinez > RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' |

RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' cant really see the landlords problem here. He was told it was illegal and therefore would not be allowed to utilise it until changes were made to make it compliant. If my car didnt pass it's MOT it wouldnt be road legal until i'd fixed the parts - if the police pulled me over for driving an unfit motor i would have absolutely no grounds for complaint. where is the difference? Another non story. This post replies to this thread |

RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' "So they told me I had to take the sides down and I had until 5pm to do so." So lets examine the words 'so they told me'...not 'I told them' .....'I had until 5pm to do so@....not 'I told them I wanted to do so by 5pm'. Seems pretty clear to me who said what according to the 'facts' of the article. This post replies to Jon Singleton > RE: Welsh licensee hits out at 'heavy-handed smoke police' |
