Excellent work Mr Brumby; on further reading; truly amazing. An industry outsider has got it right all the way, in detail and in depth. Who has been keeping you up to date?

Berwick begins issuing premises licences > Berwick begins issuing premises licences

Well it was under the authority that plans were being drawn up anyway - for all their outlets - and for once it wouldn't cost anything. No gripe about that at all, the gripes began as the deadline was approaching and there was no sign of the plans arriving. I can't remember exactly when the plans did arrive but it was very close to the day and nail biting stuff. I was really concerned that we might miss grandfather rights - which, as you all know, would have seemed pretty disastrous.

Cobra strikes deal with Curzon Cinema group > RE: Cobra strikes deal with Curzon Cinema group

It's a good idea but won't put a dent in Cobra's losses. To get volume sales Cobra needs to be far more widely distributed through the on trade - it's clear from their current / recent advertising (see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/markdodds/2552293194/) that they know this - but how effective THAT will be is another issue. Recently I got a market research company telephone me asking to do a survey about Cobra beer. I pointed out that I am tied to S&NPE and told the researcher that I thought, off hand, that Cobra is not listed in S&NPE's product range. The person confirmed this and said he didn't understand why it had been delisted from S&NPE's list. End of call.

Alan Beith - Berwick's MP - signed EDM 1328 supporting Fair Pint's objectives: http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?EDMID=35569&SESSION=891 copy and paste the link into a new browser window to see if your MP signed. If they didn't - ask them to! It's very easy to contact your MP you know: Just go here: http://www.writetothem.com/ (copay and paste the address into a new window as above) and follow the simple and quick instructions... Volia! You have taken part in the Democratic Process!

Brumby: The cost of tenant support > Brumby: The cost of tenant support

My bar staff keep giving me messages from someone called Ted asking me to call back as soon as possible. Don't know who he is - apparently he wants to talk about hiring the pub for a leaving party or something. I'm never around to take the calls though - always posting on some blog or forum or other that has nothing to do with my business.

Put aside your differences. > Put aside your differences.

PUTTING ASIDE DIFFERENCES is all a forum should be about. A forum is NOT about an individual or group stating a position and standing back expecting everyone else to agree, fall in line and supplicate to the great mind of the originator. It is about the EXCHANGE of ideas and points of view and then, possibly, the taking on broader perspectives as knowledge increases though participation which should lead to more robust positions being developed by everyone taking part. Discussion and consideration of like, or different, positions is all that is needed to make a forum be effective. Polarisation and entrenchment of different positions IS a possible outcome of the process and in recognition of this, AGREEING TO DISAGREE is part of the process as well so disagreement having opposing views should not be a barrier to success of the process. Sometimes people with opposing views might be able to understand their differences, in which case it can be great tingly feel good. At other times walking away each knowing the other is wrong and leaving the outcome to arbiters and the wind is all it takes.
